Spotify launches

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

I got my Spotify beta invite two weeks ago and I fell in love with it immediately. It’s marvelous to have all the music you can think of just a click away.

Today they launched for real! So congratulations are in order. Unfortunately that means the ad-free beta period is at end so I guess I’ll end up with the Premium monthly subscription.

Time to make

Neal Stephenson on getting interrupted:

Writing novels is hard, and requires vast, unbroken slabs of time. Four quiet hours is a resource that I can put to good use. Two slabs of time, each two hours long, might add up to the same four hours, but are not nearly as productive as an unbroken four. If I know that I am going to be interrupted, I can’t concentrate, and if I suspect that I might be interrupted, I can’t do anything at all. Likewise, several consecutive days with four-hour time-slabs in them give me a stretch of time in which I can write a decent book chapter, but the same number of hours spread out across a few weeks, with interruptions in between them, are nearly useless.

More about this can be read in Merlin Mann’s very interesting 3-part series about attention management for people who do creative work called, Making Time to Make. Go read it now!

My first iPhone application

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

With the help of the excellent Cocoa Touch tutorial over at Cocoa Is My Girlfriend I wrote my first iPhone this morning on the train to work.

It’s nothing fancy at all, but suddenly I don’t have the excuse of not knowing how to go about writing iPhone applications any longer. So hopefully I’ll start working on all the applications I have been thinking of lately.
