Cat owners may have suspected as much, but it seems our feline friends have found a way to manipulate us humans.
Researchers at the University of Sussex have discovered that cats use a “soliciting purr” to overpower their owners and garner attention and food.

As an owner of two siamese cats I have a long time ago realized that this is far from the only way the cats manipulate me. But what can you do? They are so irresistible!

With spring on its way we got a bit surprised when it started snowing Saturday morning. Ismo took the opportunity to sit and look out the window for a while.

I wonder what he is thinking about. Did he see a bird in the tree? Or is he just admiring the beautiful snowfall? Would he like to be outside or is he perfectly fine indoors with the radiator beneath him sending lots of warm air his way?

I definitively remember being awake at 3:33 at 5:45 this morning, and a few times more when I didn’t want to be disappointed by looking at the clock.

This of course resulted in me feeling very tired and unrested when my alarm clock went off at 6:18 this morning. Quite unfortunate as I otherwise felt I had slept quite well all through the weekend.

Hopefully I still have enough energy for the climbing planned this evening.

I was supposed to take the old female cat to the vet today. As you can see above she really likes the travel box!

Unfortunately she seems to be allergic to dust and she gets this horrible slime cough from time to time. I’ve been to the vet before and there isn’t really that much they can do except give her a shot of cortisone. That makes wonders though! According to the vet the shot should last a few weeks but on her it seems to last 3-4 months. Maybe it’s the placebo effect, I don’t know. All I know is that it makes the coughing go away and that’s a good thing.

When we got to the vet it turned out that he was on vacation so we’ll have to do the trip again next week. She doesn’t really mind going in the car though and as a bonus she hasn’t coughed all evening. Maybe it’s the car trip that is the real medicine!

Three months ago I went to the vet to get my female cat’s cough checked out. Naturally she didn’t cough while at the vet’s but he said it wouldn’t have helped that much anyway, it’s hard to diagnose coughing.

He figured the most probable cause is asthma due to some kind of allergy. To try that theory my cat got a cortisone shot and the vet said it would last for 2-3 maybe 4 weeks. A few days later she was like a new cat, full of energy and the coughing was all gone. It was a joy to see!

A bit surprised we realized quite a while later that there still was no sign of the coughing! But two weeks ago she started coughing again and it quickly escalated to the heart-breaking long lasting trying-to-get-something-out-of-the-throat-because-it-feels-like-i-can’t-breath coughing that sounds so horrible. Yesterday I returned to the vet and she got another cortisone shot, so hopefully that will get rid of the cough for another three months!

Apparently it’s not that uncommon for cats to develop allergies and asthma then they get older. Something I had no idea of.
