Astounding end to UK championship semi-final

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

Mark Selby took an early lead and it looked more and more gloomy for Ronnie O’Sullivan. But then he managed to change the tide and draw even at 7-7. Ronnie won the next frame as well, and for the first time in the match he was in front. However, Mark Selby fought back the next frame and forced a 17th and deciding frame.

Ronnie O’Sullivan started the final frame and after the break off shot he had left a long red in black’s left corner for Mark Selby to attack. He couldn’t resist the attack but failed to pot the red leaving Ronnie a long red in black’s right corner.

Ronnie confidently potted the long red and then kept on doing red and black balls in rapid succession. Suddenly a maximum break is within reach and he’s not stopping! He goes on to win the final deciding frame in the semi-final by doing a maximum break. The man is great!

The final tomorrow between Ronnie O’Sullivan and Stephen Maguire is going to be interesting. They’ve met before with various results and Maguire has been playing quite good recently. The final starts tomorrow at around 15 on eurosport.se and they start to show it on Eurosport 1 at 21.

Selby still in the lead

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

Now it’s the evening session and we’re in middle of the 12th frame which Selby is about to win. If he does so he will lead 7-5 over O’Sullivan, in this first to nine won frames match.

It’s looking grim for Ronnie who spent most of this frame polishing a spoon, for some very unknown reason. Kim, over beloved swedish Eurosport commentator, named this frame the spoon frame. Which I found hillarious.

Selby leder

Selby into semis after epic frame

BBC SPORT | Other sport… | Snooker | Selby into semis after epic frame

I hope you didn’t miss the longest-ever frame of snooker broadcasted on TV yesterday evening between Mark Selby and Marco Fu. Lots of fun to watch them battle it out at the table.

Now Selby will face O’Sullivan in the semi-final tomorrow. That’s going to be another interesting match.

UK Championship 2007

BBC SPORT | Other Sport… | Snooker | UK Championship 2007: Ronnie O’Sullivan

I’m home with a flu again. This time it wasn’t much of a surprise as Camilla was home from work a few days last week due to what is most likely the same flu.

With a lack of anything better to do and with no energy to actually do anything else I’m spending the afternoon watching Snooker on Eurosport. The first session of the second round match between Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark King just finished 7-1 to Ronnie, so there won’t be much of an evening session there…

Now they are showing Marco Fu vs Joe Perry. I’ll watch that and wait for Camilla to get home with the ice cream. Whisky and ice cream is the perfect medicine for a flu!

Com Hem tar bort Eurosport ur det analoga utbudet

Monday, July 9th, 2007

eurosport

(English summary: The Eurosport channel which broadcasts snooker in Sweden is going to be removed from the base selection by Com Hem, one of the biggest TV cable companies in Sweden. So if you want to see snooker in the future in Sweden you are forced to upgrade to one of their non-free digital packages.)

Digital-tv Box 495:-
Startavgifter 0:-
Frakt 0:-

Total kostnad första året: 2883:-

Jippi! Vad glad jag blir! Tack för det Com Hem!

The final – the day after

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

I did my best but at around midnight Swedish time I was too tired to continue and at end of the never-ending frame that made it 14-13 I turned off the TV and feel asleep hoping that Selby would continue on the path to victory.

Unfortunately Higgins somehow found his game again and regained enough confidence to secure the victory with 18-13. But I’m sure we’ll see plenty more of Mark Selby in the future!

The final – Higgins vs Selby – final session – mid session break

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Woha! What a final!

In the afternoon session Mark Selby staged an breathtaking comeback where he won six straight frames to even out the score to 12-10. Now they’ve played four frames and won two each making it 14-12. It feels like it can end any way. Higgins has the experience but Selby has some incredibly out-of-the-box thinking in especially his defense that’s just mind-blowing to watch.

Speaking of watch, I’m still exhausted from the climbing yesterday I wish nothing more than to go to sleep but this is too exciting. I just can’t stop watching!

Though now they are starting to speculate that the last frame might start around 02, that’s in 2.5 hours. That will probably be too much even for me but we’ll see…

I hope Mark Selby wins in the end though!

Higgins vs Selby

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Selby kind of fell through yesterday and didn’t show any of the class he showed in the semi-final against Murphy. Let’s hope he stages a bit of a comeback this afternoon so there will be a session tonight.

I’m still at work and as I’m not in the UK I can’t watch the webcasts so I have to settle with BBC’s text coverage. It’s not much but it’s something at least. I really do hope Selby makes a comeback so I can watch the end of the match tonight.

I’m not much of a fan of Higgins but it does look like he’s going to win the title this year. Unfortunately.

Update: Mark Selby did make an amazing comeback and the evening session has just started. Turn on eurosport if you’re interested.
