First we watched Black Cat, White Cat from the comfort of our gracious hosts’ sofa. An intensive, hysterical and brilliant movie. If you, like me, haven’t seen it do so!

After we got home we watched an episode of Navy CIS and some Whale Wars before we made dinner and watched a double episode of Navy CIS before ending the evening with The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.

Quite a nice day of doing nothing. A good start of the new year!

It was my brother that told me that I had to watch this TV show and when we had dinner at his place after visiting Furuvik at the end of the summer I saw the Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip DVD disks and I asked if I could borrow them.

If you liked The West Wing you are going to love Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip as well. Bradley Whitford that plays Josh Lyman in The West Wing plays one of the main characters. Matthew Perry from Friends plays another.

This combined with long brilliant dialogs written by Aaron Sorkin, who created the The West Wing, makes the show one of my current favorites. Unfortunately, as always then it’s something I like they cancelled it after the first season due to lacking performance.

The interesting thing is that according to a NBC press release:

“Studio 60 has consistently delivered some of the highest audience concentrations among all primetime network series in such key upscale categories as adults 18-49 living in homes with $75,000-plus and $100,000-plus incomes and in homes where the head of household has four or more years of college.”

The West Wing was also popular among the high-income viewers, who were a key demographic for the show and its advertisers.

It’s quite probable that the rich people who liked the West Wing also had a higher education, something that I too have, and apparently a certain kind of TV shows attract these kind of people.

Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be enough of us around for the broadcasting companies to continue with these shows. Instead they go with docu-soap programs like Big Brother and Survivor which get plenty of viewers and good ratings even though they are basically all crap.

No, I can’t stand this anymore. What has happened with quality television?

Dom utvalda (review in DN) covers the birth and growth of aSmallWorld which is Erik Wachtmeister’s private community exclusive for the jet set people of the world. DN wrote about it at the end of 2004 back then it had just started.

The documentary follows aSmallWorld from the start to now (spring 2007), and even though it doesn’t really give an in-depth view of what it’s like to run a startup business it does give a glimpse into Eric’s life as aSmallWorld grows to have 158 000 members. Something which I found quite interesting to watch.

According to one comment to the techcrunch post this is how it happened:

Lloyd lost a bet with Larry David on the golf course. The wager was that if Larry beat Lloyd in the match, Larry could use his name in some future project. Several months later Larry decided to use Lloyd Braun as the character’s name on Seinfeld without telling Lloyd first. Lloyd was caught completely off guard. All as told by Lloyd himself at a Sales conference in Palm Springs.
