David Heinemeier Hansson has collected his and others’ thoughts about the new BBEdit version in a blog post.

He quotes Chris Carline saying

For me, I’m sticking with Vim for now. But on the horizon is TextMate, which actually looks like it might be a bit good. Actually, really, really good.

I’ll just say ditto. I’ve never understood the hype about BBEdit, coming from an Amiga, Windows and Unix background and not starting to use Apple stuff until Jaguar, BBEdit has just never appealed to me.

My guess is that the people who use and like BBEdit are the people who have been using it since pre MacOS X. It would be interesting to know how many are actually buying new BBEdit versions versus how many are upgrading. That would tell much whether they are attracting new users or just keep old ones.
