Steve Jobs on why they are charging different prices for the same songs in different European markets

At the Berlin news conference, Mr. Jobs reiterated that Apple had been compelled by the major music companies to charge different prices for the same songs in different European markets.

“We think the prices should be the same,” Mr. Jobs said. “Anybody in Europe should be able to buy off of any store. I’ve been saying this from the start. But the music companies don’t permit us to resell their music that way. So it’s really an issue with the music companies.”

It would be nice if the same would apply to Apple’s hardware as well. Unfortunately I think that’s always going to be more expensive in Europe.
