The other day we got tired of all the rain and went climbing indoors. It must have been a month or more since the last time we sat foot in the climbing gym.
It showed as the endurance when climbing overhanging routes wasn’t at the level we’re used to. Most of the outdoor climbing we’ve been doing the past month has been on slabby to near vertical walls. So while we’ve got better at that we lost some in other areas.
What indoor climbing lacks in experience it makes up in efficiency. It’s possible to climb a lot of routes in a short period of time, which makes it an excellent form of training. Even though we love being outdoors and try to do it as much as possible during the summer maybe we should remember to plan the occasional indoor session to keep the body in shape.
